About this app
Whisper IME is a voice keyboard. Hold the button, say what you want to write, and it types it out — using OpenAI's Whisper speech recognition running on the phone itself, so nothing you say is sent to a company's servers.
You can use it as a standalone app, as a keyboard, or set it as Android's system-wide voice input so the microphone button in other keyboards and apps uses it instead. As a standalone app it can also translate speech in other languages into English. There are two models: a small fast English-only one and a much slower multilingual one.
On first launch it downloads about 435 MB of models from Hugging Face — that is the only time it needs the internet, so do it on Wi-Fi. Each recording is limited to 30 seconds, and setting it as system voice input sometimes needs an adb command, explained in the project's readme.
